![]() ![]() http://www.uboot995.homepage.t-onlin...__zubehor.html "Doppelbild-Entfernungs- und Zielkurswinkelschätzer" = "Double-image-Range and AOB estimator" They actually had a pretty nifty solution to get AOB too. Once range was measured similar to the 'american way', they rotated the mechanism 90 degrees on its side, and after setting known length they rotated a dial to put the bow of one image on the stern of the other, then the value of AOB could be read off from it. The Ujagd tools and OLCGui (in Sh3 but it's been ported over to Sh4 aswel I think) by Joegrundman, Hitman and Onelifecrisis is a very good representation of the whole process, except only relying on one rendered view. If only Ubisoft had incorporated this 90 degree rotation into the Atlantic Theater Operations. But alas ... incorporating cool stuff doesn't help sales. Or does it? Ok, here's my attempt to translate: (just the "Doppelbild-Entfernungs- und Zielkurswinkelschätzer"-page. You'll have to rely on another person or online translator for the rest of the site.)
The Double-image-range-and-AOB-estimator is part of the periscope equipment and is build onto the eyepiece-head. It can be used for magnifications of 1.5x and 6x. It's purpose is: a) to provide the range of a target ship based on known or estimated height. b) to determine the Angle on the Bow (AOB) based on the known or estimated length of the target ship aswell as the previously established range. for a): The eyepiece of the double-image-range-and-AOB-estimator is rotated infront of the periscope viewopening with a handle. In the field-of-view appear 2 images verticaly displaced of the opponent ship, that can be narrowed together by turning a dial, so the lower-side of the upper image touches the upper-side of the lower image. This completes the measurement. The result in the form of target-range can be read off immediately from a scale opposite the previously set target-height. Measurementrange is 200m to 10000m. for b): The double-image-range-and-AOB-estimator-eyepiece (Pisces: Sigh! Last time!!!! ) in front of the periscope view-opening is rotated 90 degrees from the previous orientation, so both images of the ship now appear displaced sideways from eachother. After the appropriate value for shiplength, and the at a) established range are matched on a scale, the images can be moved together with a knob, until the stern of one image is touching the bow of the other image. That again completes the measurement and the established Angle on the Bow can now be read off immediately. |
