Default aft torpedoes question

I have fiired my aft torpedoes, but never hit anything. Part of the problem is setting up for the aft shot at ninety degrees of the target's course. If I damage/sink a target I use fore topodoes because I have plenty of them , and it is difficult to get into position for an aft torpedoes attack, especially if the target is moving. I think my difficulty with set up for an attack using aft torpedoes is because all the compass settings are 180 degrees different than in a attack using fore torpedoes, and the ship turning commands when a ship is moving back are reverse of those when when the ship moving ahead. (An aft attack is eqivalent to steering and shootingt while driving a car in reverse. Essentially, everything is backwards.)

I manage to get confused and set up incorrectly for aft shots because of the forgoing. For example if I am in firing positon using fore torpedoes at a true heading of 15 degrees and decide to fire my aft torpedoes at the target, my ship will have to change its course to a true heading of of 195 degrees to get in positon for the aft shot (15 degrees [orrigial course] + 180 degrees [aft firing positon] ). And if the enemy ship is changing cousrse, it can get confusing quickly,. Alternatively, my ship could sail past the target's course to set up for a shot using an aft torpedoe; or, it could sail past the bow or stern of a target, so the aft torpedoes are aimed in its general direction, and then maneuver into aft firing position if I have time.

Is their a simple way to do this? Or do you save the aft torpedoes for emergencies and to finish off damaged target swhere there is time to set up for an aft shot? If I am missing the concept, let me know.

I tend to use aft torpedos for targets that have moved passed me that need to be finnished off.

Another way to use aft torpedoes is in an ambush position, where you are basically just camped out as the enemy passes astern of you. That way you don't have to maneuver and attack too.

Then it's just a matter of repetition so that all the small steps don't saturate the neural network. You have to change a frustrating conscious procedure into a well-honed automatic procedure. Once you can perform the individual steps without having to think about it, you'll be able to incorporate the tricky stuff.

Take Ginger Rodgers advice...just do exactly what Fred Astaire does...except in reverse.

You can naturally dispense with the while wearing high heels part...

Hey... the aft tubes are no more difficult to attack with than the Bow tubes. At first it can be intimidating ....having to reason things out "backwards" but in no time you'll master it with ease. Trust me.

Default Aft torpedoes

Personally, I don't really plan an attack with aft torps in mind. Unless I get really lucky and am positioned so that a convoy goes over me and I have targets in front and behind. That is pretty rare though and is still tricky to setup quickly.

If I'm close enough to a target and am out of forward fish I'll go flank speed and spin around, cut speed or all-stop and try to get an aft shot in.

If a target is stationary I'll manoeuvre to use the aft tubes in order to keep what I consider my main armament, the forward tubes, for other serious business (i.e. if it's a harbour situation then using the aft tubes allows me to get out of dodge quicker as I'm already pointing toward the 'exit'!! LOL).

Finally as already mentioned, the aft tubes are my defensive protection in an extreme emergency when I need to try and strike out at a pursuing warship and I'm out of options!!

Actually if it is early on in my patrol I will try to set up for stern shots when possible.

I know that the shots from the stern are far less common and would like to use up those reserves early on.

Its easy, just point your stern at the target and solution as usuall.
