I read that when you use TC, the destroyers searching for you get a lot luckier, and in practice this is borne out. One can be sneaking away from busily pinging butt receeding DDs, and when you ramp up TC, they hone right in on you like bees to honey.
I hate this. I would like to speed things up once I know i've gotten away. I was wondering if there was any file edit that got rid of this feature, if anyone had looked into it at all, or even in there was a TC rate at which the DDS are not endowed with super powers all of the sudden. |

Oh cmon jamz! It's a fundamental part of submarining! It's like playing a simulation of D Day without the marines landing or the paras jumping!
![]() Patience is part of the game...

I don't think there is a control parameter for that. I've been through the AI sensors and there isnt a parameter that changes their behavior under TC. I use TC with DD's in the area (never over 32) all the time and it dosen't seem to have much of an effect. If there within 1000-2500 yards I wouldn't suggest it because even if you notice hes heading straight for you, you may not have time to stop the TC before its too late.
Like stated above, its all about patience. I generally watch TV, smoke..a cigarette, go on a beer run, several different things while I wait on the DD's to pass. If your using TM then the DD's are gonna find you a lot with or without TC as they have x-ray vision with TM, or at least it seems so sometimes. |

Yeah, but I hate TV except for Patriots Football (American), I don't smoke, hardly ever drink, and my family is usually in bed when I play. Sometimes I'll fire up a separate game on the laptop or the DS... feels strange to play a game to pass the time while playing a game though.

I also do not see any difference in enemy behavior with TC on. You just have less time to react and it makes them apparently more sensitive.

I figure if you are going to clear datum at 1kt at a given depth by making constant port/starboard turns, why not do it all quickly, ya know.

I think it's like that because the game engine has to simplify its analysis of the data in order to run at higher TC. I don't know if it's moddable or not. I know nothing about the AI and don't want to look, in case I found out how they work!

How can you see the ocean at x256 TC? Bridge and/or periscope stations can go up to x32 TC. At least on my puter.

ahh! Well, the game is "graphic intensive" and actual performance can depend alot on your hardware and how you have "tuned" it (drivers etc). I hope some of the more puter literate captains around here will help you out.
