message for GWX 2.0 or 2.1 team

Hello --

This message concerns a *nearly* identical (a) web page view; and, (b) Paypal email sent to folks who donate to Subsim. Nearly identical, but not 100% and I think that it is an unintentional oversight.

I made my annual donation to Subsim last night, and I wanted to bring to the attention of GWX 2.0 and 2.1 team members what I think is probably an accidental discrepancy. First, after making my donation via Paypal, I was pleased to see that as a reward I was offered GWX downloads. This was presented to me as a static web page which appeared after the PayPal transaction. However ... an email sent to me a short time later by PayPal is MUCH the same in appearance as the web page I was talking about ... but not the same. The PayPal email also includes links for downloads of a GWX 2.1 Update and a GWX ReadMe. The web page does not mention these although it seems that it should. I think those who are donating and then downloading probably want that GWX 2.1 update. But if they don't closely compare the PayPal email they receive later, with the immediate static web page presented, it's easy to miss the difference between the two. The two items appear to be identical until you scroll down lots of lines on each and spot the discrepancy.

In addition, the PayPal version additionally offers a 48-hour link for Pacific Aces, which I understand is a graphical mod for SH2. These are also items not listed on the static web page view.

One more thing: The Paypal email does include two time-limited links (48 hours max) for a couple of things, a "SHII Hi Res Mod, Grey Wolves, & other Bonus Mods" -- I am not sure but am assuming that refers to an exclusively SH2 (S H two) package of mods, but I've never seen SH2 mentioned around here. I didn't join until 2005 though. As well as (Paypal email) a time-limited link for Tanksim patches, not even sure what that is.

I thank all for their hard work on mods, can't wait to play GWX 2.1, assume that is the current operational version!

Thanks for this info.

I think Neal may need to check into this stuff.
No donation is needed for GWX 2.1 anymore.
You can find them at
http://www.thegreywolves.com

The donation allows Neal to keep this site going.
So it's great that you kicked in the hard earned bucks!!

The Pacific Aces stuff is for SH2 which I now have again!!

Thanks TarJak!!

I'm going to FINALLY get a chance to play it!

Default In fact -- are these links old links?

Thanks for the return message. It occurred to me after reading what you wrote, that the links in either Neal's static web page saying "Thanks for donating" and/or the links in the Paypal email itself might in fact be outdated. I hope that someone from GWX will look into this possibility, because I might have downloaded 2 gigs of old stuff within the last 24 hours. I doubt if all the links are old, but just by looking at the links below I think I can deduce that some indeed are outdated.

It's OK if so, I just want others to avoid this possible issue. To make the comparison of possible old files and new files, I am going to cut and paste some stuff below. Maybe someone can have a quick look and say, Yep those are old files anyway. I appreciate any feedback! vois2

Pacific Aces was a complete American redo for SH2. That all seems to be old stuff. I would PM Neal and ask him.
