HMS Barham, if I'm not mistaken. Hit by 3 torps from U-331.

Ouch....

Only British Battleship sunk by u-boats I think, right? Sad yet spectacular images there. That explosion is just massive.

Cool! I wonder if that was its magazine, or its boilers blowing. I'd guess the latter as it happened just as the funnels hit the water (cold water, meet crazy hot boiler!).

It was the HMS Barnum and I go along with cold
water meeting hot boilers. I did not see many if
any lifeboats. Wander what the casualties were?

According to Wikipedia, her magazines exploded, taking two thirds of the crew down with her (aroun 800 men).

I've seen a better clip somewhere which is in focus and closer in. You can barely make them out in this clip, but there are hundreds of sailors clinging to her bottom as she rolls and then they are vaporized in the explosion. Truly horrific.

It's well worth going to the HMS Barham website(see my link above). In particular check out the survivors' stories which they have posted-horrifying/astonishing/heartbreaking, in equal measure.
