Default A Jolly Roger

This made me laugh, Portsmouth dockyard have taken this billboard poster down because it looks a bit 'wrong'.

Unfortunate camera angle perhaps. :hmm: However the Captain doesn't appear to have a problem with it. And I bet that they sung many sea shanty songs together. It all just gives new meaning to Master and Commander.

Shouldn't this be in the 'consensual sex' thread?

The billboard, advertising tours of Portsmouth Dockyard, has a photo portraying the heat of battle in Nelson's day.

But drivers passing it in Winchester, Hampshire, thought of a much naughtier alternative.

Ya know, I am probably one of the more sick and perverted members of this forum. But until someone pointed out something "wrong" with that picture, I would never have made that association.

Are there people out there who are deliberately trying to see "dirty" stuff in innocent ads?

Yes, I'm normally one of them!

It was actually called a dirk and was carried by midshipmen. The officer in the picture is a post captain as he has an epaulet on his left shoulder.

My first reaction to the photo was that the cannon had run over his foot, but then after reading the first couple of posts I relized what the rest of you were seeing.

I guess Churchill was right about the navy,

I didn't realize it was a cannon he was gripping till someone pointed it out. I mean, I knew it was meant to be innocent. I'm just not sure what the innocent was.

I don't think dirk had quite the same ring to it

You hear of people getting 'stabbed' from a dagger, but seldom a dirk....that sounds more like a name fir the person wielding the dagger
