He has a point, Clive, and there is a reason why correspondence chess uses numerical four digit code to identitfy orginal and target square. I really would recommend to stick to the basic principle behind it to repeat the past move of the opponent and then give one's own in full notation. It helps to evade reading or writing mistakes and makes a player aware before he is posting his move wether or not he maybe was misreading the last move he is answering to - so that he calculated on a wrong assumption. It all is just about preventing mishaps and misunderstandings.

I even never heared of it, but see that I already may be in trouble. This needs some thorough research being done. the little I remember about Caro-Kann is basing on material from 1983. And this sequence I have never seen before... Blind flight by night, in cloudy weather...
