U-Deutschland, after her first cruise, was renamed U 155, her sister ship U 151 was the record holder for the longest single patrol, Martin Niemoller was "Number One" of this boat! I have drawings for U-cruisers U 139/141 and general arangement diagrams for U 151/154 (though they are a little grainy), also pictures of U 140 & 152. I can upload if you want, I would PM Mush Martin for probably better information.

Interesting Reece,
Looking into U155 their 105 day patrol had no ships sunk and no attacks against it - in late 44, even though they went along a well-travelled route... |

U 155 (WW1, scrapped in 1922) was used for, on the first cruise anyway, purely as a cargo "ship", to sneak through the English channel with contraband, was a sucess too!

Actually, "Deutschland" made TWO successful round trips as a cargo sub to the US in 1916, not one. She was being prepared for a third voyage when Germany declared unrestricted submarine warfare in January 1917; the voyage was cancelled and "Deutschland" converted for more warlike purposes.
"Deutschland" was the first of a class of merchant submarines to be completed; the second, "Bremen", was lost with all hands during her first outward-bound voyage in 1916- cause of loss unknown, but probably a diving accident. The others were still in varying stages of construction in January 1917 though at least one had been given a name, "Oldenburg". All of them were, like "Deutschland", converted for military use and used as long-range U-cruisers though suffering from limitations due to their design being originally intended for civilian purposes.

In Rossler's "The U-boat" there a re a few views but I am needing a Sheer view (end view showing the frames) of her hull so I can get the curves as accurate as possible.
My intentions are to include these as German Merchant traffic in the WWI sim I am working on |
