Mysterious Loss of Steering!

1.5

for no apparent reason, I've completely lost the ability to steer my boat. I plot a course, hit the "follow course" button, and I keep going at my current heading. I rudder is full left, as my new set course is 180 degrees to my current heading. However, the boat will not turn. I've taken no damage--0% hull, and rudder systems are fine. Anyone seen this before?

I've searched all the forums and haven't found anything.

Thanks for any replies!

Default Loss os steering...

Have you left your men on General Quarters for too long? That is the only time I have had this problem...it is easy to forget you have the men on General Quarters.
Turn General Quarters off and after the men have got some rest things should get back to normal.

Hope this helps,

Bam

brandtryan,

More than likely you lost your rudder. If you have, it is all over unless you are lucky
enough to be aimed at a friendly port.

I have had it happen to me for mysterious reasons also.

Either or both could be true. Check your crew and the Damage Control screen. A damage bar of "1.0" is 100% damaged and unrepairable.

After searching I found this topic. I as well have had this mysterious loss of steering problem several times. It usually happens after some random engine or dive planes transmission damage. Even if everything is repaired I have absolutely no steering whatsoever with absolutely no damage showing on the board. It's very odd.

There seems to be a couple of 'Mystery" events in SHIV. Another one is unexplained loss of engines....:hmm:

I have had a problem with speed being reset to zero during TC with no explaination..but in those cases coming out of TC and resetting speed has always worked..but there is a first time for everything..or so I've heard.

Yet another reason to make multiple unique saves during each patrol.

I had a missing rudder as well. No turning, no damage according to the damage screen. Had external view on and locked at the back of my boat and sure enough the rudder was gone with no damage on the damage screen.

It seems to me that "dive plane transmission" damage is somehow related to the rudder. I've had no rudder damage but 100% dive plane damage. Funny thing is, rear dive planes work fine, but the rudder doesn't.

I had the same problem with Dive Plane Transmission, but my last 'mistake' I had only some engine damage and it was minor and quickly fixed but still lost my steering. So I had to rule out the 'only dive plane trans damage' theory. It seems to be an Engine Room damage bug of some sort.

Seems so then.

Possibly somthing that could be corrected?

Well, not by me.. But here is something interesting that may shed some light. It could be possible the transmission are switched. I was testing a new mission for the Japanese Campaign and got impatient attacking a Task Force and TCed and the destroyers were all over me. To make a long story short I ended up with almost 75% damage to the rudder transmission and could still steer, no problem. And no damage to the dive planes transmission. Then I lost my engines so I couldn't test it when I actually got dive planes tran. damage.
Just a thought, nothing that's tested or proven, but that is what happened to me.
