Default Very good analysis in a Russian editorial

I hate to refer the old threads, but this one is too good to be missed. Only some Western editorials I read in the past 10 days can show that ammount of realism and objectivity with regard to both sides.

Keep it civil.

That is without a shadow of a doubt the most balanced article I have read in recent times....and to think it came from a Russian oriented source.

That was a very interesting article and perspective. Thanks for posting it.

Here's another one I found interesting;

Why Georgia is not the start of Cold War II
http://www.csmonitor.com/2008/0822/p01s02-woeu.html

Makes you think about all the references in the first article. I just hope the governments are smart enough to realize that all people are tired of war.

Maybe we should make it an international law that when a war or invasion is started, or any military action to "protect interests", the first people deployed to the front lines with a rifle have to be the decision makers and their families.

Thank you Skybird. I mostly agree with most of your opinions" and analytical essays, appriciated your try to be independent as much as possible.
I m originally from Russia, and proud to be an American Citizen.
I m not a Putin-guy, but most of media (CNN/FOX) even didnt mention that Tskhinvali (South Ossetia 's capital) was attacked by Georgian forces using multiple-launch rocket systems GRAD (!!! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/9K51_Grad ). Can you imaging using rocket against city; GRAD works by squires.

15 Russian peacekeepers were killed instantly by Georgian peacekeepers. Russian troops were entered 10-12 hours after georgian launch and murdering russian soldiers.
Saakashvili can be a good prime minister( he is a good manager but not a president, and look at this ).
Conflict between Saakashvili and Putin even has personal aspects.
About Nato: When Soviet Union collapsed Russian received guarantees from NATO that it will not include former Soviet Union Republics, but NATO destroyed that promise.
PS Russian TV news sucks. There is only one way of news and it is Putin way. Visiting Russia 2003, 2004,2006 I was witness how chauvinism propaganda is raising. And I hate it.
Watching FOX / CNN I noticed that objectivity is out of american media in some cases.

Golts is a well known journalist and writes quite critical pieces in the Moscow Times. I don't always agree with him but he has hit the nail on the head here.

You know the Moscow Times has survived and doesn't cozy up to the Kremlin in anyway. I'm pretty sure if the Kremlin wanted to it would shut it down. The fact it hasn't is telling.
