Default Excessive rolling of the boat

Which parameter controls the roll motion of the boats.

I changed the Sim cfg. Mech. Parameters per the instructions given in the thread concerning the sub being like it was on rails. But now all the boats have a ridiculous roll. The side to side movement needs to be slower to look more realistic, instead of looking like a bathtub toy.Waves

these are the two parameters that seem to control the behaviour on the water.

Waves amplitude=0.5
Waves attenuation=0.10

So which one of these controls the pitch, and which one the roll?

Use S3D and open up the submarines .sim file

Your looking for GC_Height. Its probably set somewhere around 2.75 or 3.15 or something like that. Reduce it down to 2. umm i dunno... 2.1 .. 2.25 something like that, then try it in 15 kt winds and see if it rocks too little or too much. Its a trial and error kind of thing.

Warning: with this setting, going too high with the GC height (ex. 3.75) can cause your boat to capsize if rammed or in real rough weather. A good acid test for this is to set up a single mission with a destroyer doing 25 kts at a 300 to 500 meter distance from the player starting position in such a manner that he will ram you. This allows you to see just how far the boat will roll when properly "encourged".

S3d for some reason does not work on my machine. I think it is because the files needed to run in (windows files) are too big for my drive. My machine has a small area for the operating system). So I am screwed in that area cause I really wanted to run this program.

Could somebody set the sub files up for download in the better roll characteristics set up?

I would do it myself, but as I said, S3D is kaput on my machine.

Stock:
SH3
[Mech]
Waves amplitude=0.5 ;[0,1]
Waves attenuation=0.03 ;>=0

Sh4 (1.5)
[Mech]
Waves amplitude=0.2 ;[0,1]
Waves attenuation=0.75 ;>=0
...
Try up Waves amplitude ...
Try down Waves attenuation ...

Example:
[Mech]
Waves amplitude=0.8 ;[0,1]
Waves attenuation=0.03 ;>=0
...
You will get greater and abrupt waves ...

P.S.
Do not forget ... boats in
SH4 are greater and heavy ...
And you can play with mass or (if mass=0) displacement (down it) ...

Bumped!

this has some very intresting results after some experimenting ive managed to get rid of that annoying "sub on rails" and have a pretty awesome riding on the waves effect now, one time i musta been pointing 45 degrees going up this huge wave and i got to the top and rolled over it and slammed down the otherside.

Thanks guys

Ditto. Can you reproduce the file so we can DL and try it?

Basicly i used advarts example and tweaked it a bit slightly to hopfully match the wave sizes and heavy weather conditions ingame. If you put this into your sim.cfg it will be near the top under [Mech] you should see some big differnce in the up and down motion of the submarine when in bad weather.

Waves amplitude=0.8
Waves attenuation=0.03

do you have WClear's Environmental Mod (since 4.4) running?
he included some modded submarine .sim files which give a
similiar swing effect.
changing wave amplitude alone this high affects all other ships and
may cause strange behaviour.
