The article doesn't attempt to differentiate between profit and profit margin. To do so would produce a much less explosive article, because once people understand the difference between them, they can then see how much money is actually being made on every Dollar of sales.

Yep. If you analyze Exxons profit margin, its about 12%. Much lower than many other companies.
