Default McChord Airshow pics

Might as well start off with the vulnerable F-16! I tried to take pics that people would not normally take. Intakes, exhaust systems, etc. Anyway, I'll do one aircraft at a time as I get time.

-S

Might as well start off with a pic of the Thunderbirds!

On to the static F-16 displays:

In this shot, you can see the 20 mm M-61:

Ever wondered what a burner looks like? These series of shots should give you a clue!:

The small holes that you are seeing along the edge is where they dump raw fuel in and ignite it. If you look close, just below center right on the turbofan, you will see a small tube - that is obviously a tempurature sensor! Around the outside, you can see fuel lines (tubing). Told you I look for the not so obvious shots! :

Default F-22

Here is the F-22! You weren't allowed close to it, but that didn't stop me from trying to get some semi-close shots!

Mustang and Raptor together!:

Do you like that or something? Please keep it to another thread. Thanks! Trying to post pics here.

The vurnerable A-10. Also slated to be replaced, but I still think its a mistake. That gun is indispensable.

-S

Business end of an 30 mm!:

The wheel well of the front nose gear - notice how far offset it is - I'm a sucker for mechanical things!:

Armor plating on the tail doesn't look as thick:

Targetting pod:

Sidewinder:

This is my favorite shot from the A-10. Notice the seeker head on the Maverick! Never saw this before myself. This is usually covered up!:

Default F-15E

Had a couple F-15E's out there. Interesting aircraft. Reminds me of the Navy's attempt to hang on to the F-14 because they were looking to keep it in service longer!

-S

Notice how beefed up the upper body structure is over a normal F-15C!:

Here is the cockpit. I talked to the pilot about how comfortable those seats are. The answer is, he can stand about 45 minutes to an hour. Bad part is, the longest flight he has been on lasted over 8 hours! Ouch! Apparently they are solid metal with a thin layer of padding!:

He's only pointing it out because you are saying vulnerable when you probably mean venerable.

Thank you! Yes, i misspelled what I meant!

I've got a ton more shots coming to!

Need to go buy a new pair of shoes first though so maybe I'll post this Yak-11 pics and then do a few more when I get back.

-S

PS. Sorry UnderseaLpcl for getting on your case!

Default Jet car vs MiG-17

Now this was a bit of an unfair fight in my opinion, but there ya go. The MiG-17 had its high drag landing gear down? Maybe that makes it aerodynamically fair against the Jet car, but still!!!!

-S

MiG crosses the line at 200 MPH, so maybe it is a fair fight since it has a 200 MPH speed advantage from the get go!:

Rocket car stops the speed advantage and rockets to 400 MPH and wins!:
