I had this situation during last patrol: I spoted lonely merchant and I started intercepting him. Because my torpedos didn't sink him only did some damage I decided to finish him using deck gun. It took me some time before he sunk. After this kill I returned on my course and after 1 hour of sailing I got 3 contacts on my radar from direction where I sunk merchant. I came back to place where he went down and waited. I was very suprised when these 3 contacs turned out as 3 japanese destroyers. They started patroling place where this merchant sunk. I had to move back this time (well 3 angry destoyers could sink me easy with my skills
![]() I suppose they call for support if support units are near but I am not sure or maybe this was coincidence ? Thanks |

I'm using SH4 1.5 with RSRD and ROW mods for my campaign. Yes, I think those enemy ships tell their friends where I'm at. At the moment I'm slowly making my way back to Fremantle. On the way I encounter merchants and sink them with my deck gun if possible. Every time after merchants sink I can be sure that air patrols will be paying my sub a visit. So, during daylight, I go to pd and wait for the planes to pass over then surface again.

In the stock game merchants will definitely get aircraft support. As for naval support I'm fairly confident in saying that DDs will come if close by, but depends upon location.

I just read the readme file with the game, and according to it, enemy forces will come to the assistance of units that are being attacked. So, we can answer your question with a definitive, yes!!
