Default How to create new speech files?

I did a search for "speech" and "ogg" without success, but I apologize if this has been covered before.

What is the secret to getting new speech files to work? I ripped some clips from my favorite sub movies into OGG format and replaced the stock files but the game CTD whenever prompted for the sounds. What's the secret?

Thank you in advance.

Back in SH3 I used the sound mod "Das Boot". There was a CTD ever when the "New Message received" was played. Thought there was a patch available which solved the problem.

All I know (I think to know) is:
1. the right format must be used (mono/stereo/joint stereo)
2. the samplerate must be within some limits
3. the filesize must not exceed the maximum allowed size

I could be wrong with these infos, but this are the points where I'd begin to test with.

Certain files sound files may be no longer than XX seconds. Off the top of my head (and im not home to look it up) i do not recall exactly which files and what the specified length was.

LukeFF knows for sure ive seen a post he did that explained exactly what im describing above.

I'm the one who converted SH2's Das Boot sounds for SH3, and I learned the hard way: MONO ONLY ON THE SPEECH FILES! Stereo is fine, if unrealistic, for the gramaphone, and wonderful for the regular sounds, but speech must be in mono.

I used www.goldwave.com to do my conversions.

Guys, thanks a ton for the help. I'll bet the Stereo vs Mono is the culprit.

If anyone has a link to LukeFF's original speech post I'd love to see it.

Thanks again.
