New trouble ahead for EU wannabe-constitution

Poland's president Kaczynski says he will not sign the Lisbon treaty.

Meanwhile, German president Köhler has followed a request by Germany's constitutional high court to to sign the treaty as long as the court has not decided on a case brought in by SED-predecessor Die Linke, and consrvative poltiicians Gauweiler who argue the treaty would in parts violate the german constitution. Finally, France's Sarkozy yesterday said he will neither assist nor passively tolerate the ongoing enlargement of the EU without a reform, already exlcuding Croatia at the current time, and he indicated that under his presidency the EU regarding this damn paper will not just act as if nothing happened. He propagated a new start, this time for a EU building on a chnaged and adjusted self-understanding on what it is.

At least that's how I understood him.

Sarko talks a lot and is a hectic "actionist" anyway, but I hope that this time there is more to it than just another of is hyperactivistic fantasies.

German critics slam the German president for indirectly "signalling that he may consider not to line up with the treaty". I am always amused to see how quickly this kind of people is willing to forsake legal state principles and democratic principles if it only helps to push their own political agendas. It is so revealing, and teaches you major lessons in democracy in almost zero time. Yesterday I talked to a doctor during a short break, who bropught it all so nicely together: "look at them in Brussel, those old-gentleman-clubs and established cliques how make their deals outside the official ways and decision making processes and do not obey their own rules", he said; "and look how the pose with giving offices to young attractive women not having any real power at all, but trading the real powerful offices all amongst themselves - in what way is the EU administration any different to the pose we have seen from the former pöolitbureau of the former sovjet KPdSU?".

Well, that comparison often has been on my mind as well.

at the same time a major study in Germany showed that not only amongst social weak, but in all social classes trust in and acceptance of democracy is drastically waining. In former times, 8-9 germans in 10 supported the concept. Today - only 6 in 10 remain, tendency: steep decline. In the forseeable future it is possible, so said a social scientist, that participation at federal election could fall below 50%. For german conditions, that value really means something.

there's a real problem with the lack of informations an irish which was interviewed at the news said "i'll vote no coz i don't know what i'm going to vote for" . i think Europe has to be reinforced on the constitution level in particular for creating a common army but it can't be done without the inhabitants consent i also think that the irish said no and we have to consider it and not to want to overpass at any cost
