Noticed something strange

I'm currently in the Mediteranean sea, and stumbled upon a heavily escorted convoy.
However, the convoy consists of 1 small merchant, escorted by at least 4 or 5 Black Swan frigates. Could it be transporting some highly valuable cargo? Or a V.I.P.?
I've never seen a single ship being escorted by so many frigates before, it must be something worth the effort!

Not sure what it was transporting, but I sunk in nonetheless. Currently hiding from 5 frigates dropping DC's like confetti.

In that case, Kptlt. Hanomag, good shooting! It must be enerving for the enemy to see an entire convoy dissapear. I hope you didn't find as much resistance from the escorts as I have, I'm still ducking DC's!

To sink a ship of war implements is one thing, but to take away a mans tea, that is unforgiveable!!

I shook off the escorts now, leaving them with a few thousand pounds worth of depthcharges lost, and an angry commander, for losing his cup of tea!

An alternative explanation might be the simple fact that the merchant was travelling without escort, and a friendly task force happened to be headed the same direction.

I recently intercepted a british transmittion that said a load of tea was ordered for Field Marshal Montgomery. It was to be transported by a small merchant and transporting a seaman named......Dinsdale.

He apparently was sinking more ships then the Kriegsmarine was and so was entrusted with this small duty. They even provided a large escort for him to keep away the U-boats.

Or so they thought....

It could be, but they were sailing in an actual convoy. The merchant in the middle, with the frigates at its flanks, front and back. Just like you see on a regular convoy.
Or do task forces actually join up with lone merchants?

No, I don't think they did. And if they did I doubt it would be reflected in the game. I was just musing.

On the other hand, the idea came to me because on several ocassions the Japanese did just that. Their records show several cases of lone, or, at most, two merchants ending up with cruisers and destroyers running along with them for part of their journeys.

Just having fun.

Hehe, well I would've let the merchant go if it was unescorted (2k ton? nah) But it seemed so important to be escorted by 5 frigates, I just had to sink it
