1. Use your observation periscope at night--much better light.
2. If you ask for a transfer and get it your next assignment will probably be based on your previous location and may not be practicable to your new location. Simply sail back into port, quit patrol and dock. You will be given a new assignment based upon your new location.
3. When you are on patrol and decide to save, do not delete your last AutoSaveLeaving Port entry. That way, if you get a corrupted save and can't get back into your career (this has happened to me) you can get back into the briefing room with that captain/career. This way you don't have to start an entirely new carrer. As you complete patrols and start new ones always keep the recent AutoSave each time.
