Default Refresh My Memory

I just ordered a new "luxury" computer....3.00 GHz Quad Core Processor ,3 SLI latest version 768 mb graphic cards..all that rot...

Naturally I was getting out my SHIII and SHIV disks and boxes in preparation for installing them on the new system...and hoping for no convoy congestion on this system when it arrives.

Then I noticed there are no security keys in the boxes.... ...please remind me...doesn't UBI require security keys? If not, then that is surprising since UBI is so piracy paranoid. It has been so long since I installed them I can't actually remember. Or were the codes in the game manuals? If so... well that is gonna require some even deeper digging.... I know I could have looked in my system registry for the codes but ..stupid me..I thought they were in the game boxes I have been saving and I have already deleted both the sims and cleaned the registry in anticipation of giving this system to my kid. (a girl.. so she won't be playing any subsims)

(Probably a mute point anyway... since I was reading the Vista thread and the general best opinion for running on Vista is to just go ahead and order a D2D download version which is already 1.4 patched and starforce free...that would take care of SHIII but not IV.)

Dang..that is my memory too. Printed on white stickers inside of the large black plastic boxes the sims came in....not jewel cases.

Well now...that is a real mystery of the deep. Both of mine are missing and both were stored in a place nobody but me has access to. Even if they did no one that ever comes around here would have any reason to "swipe" them.

BTW..I did check my registry and SHIII's security code is still in there. My reg cleaning program missed it...but SHIV is certainly gone. Since I was planning on "D2Ding" SHIII anyway I'm still no better off. Guess I'll just say to heck with it and just order both titles. I don't have time or the nature for crying over spilled milk....but I can't abide unsolved mysteries.... now just where in the devil did those codes go?????

I found out something interesting about SH IV when I re-installed it.

1. It doesn't even require a key code and quite by accident I discovered that the DVD disk doesn't even need to be in the drive to run.

Now to me those are two amazing facts considering Ubisoft's history with these and other releases....but I ain't complaining, no sireee...in fact... wtg!

SH4 has a nodvd exe and has done since 1.3 IIRC
Newer releases of SH3 on disc come patched to 1.4 and also have a no dvd exe though these are not ubisoft release but made under licence these days
