Default Dusty Millers Secret War

This is an amazing story!

Quote:
How did the British obtain such accurate intelligence on German WW1 U-boats? As Kendall McDonald discovers, it wasn't down to a band of elite secret agents, but rather the skill and bravery of diver Dusty Miller. In part one of this two-part feature, we find out how Dusty's underwater war work began

Sorry, but the second part is just rubbish.
UB 116 simply tried to do what Prien did in WW2. It was a regular new boat with a regular crew, except for one additional officer, a friend of Emsmann who wanted to make a war patrol in a Submarine. The newspaper Article was one thing, another was C.S. Forrester writing a story called "U-97" about a rogue sub with an all officer crew trying to strike a last blow. The story was turned into a play which was ironically a huge hit in Nazi Germany.

Generally it is astounding how this website manages to ignore 80+ years of german sources and historical research and apparently draws mostly from 1920s pulp fiction.
Ironically the german counterpart (taucher.net) has a detailed and thoroughly researched article about UB 116, but I suppose for german divers the wrecks are not "bloody huns" but rather war graves.

At least Emsmann sank his british ship, even if it was in 1969.
When the Royal Navy blew up UB 116s wreck, the torpedoes detonated prematurely and the salvage ship had to beach herself to avoid sinking....

Sounds like you're just being a Bitter Betty to me.

Seriously, I don't particularly care if the all officer crew is completely factual or not. The very idea of diving down into a just sunk sub and pushing bodies/live ordinance out of the way to recover codes and secret documents is astounding. This Miller guy must have had absolute nerves of steel.
