Things to avoid so I don't have load and crash issues second time around?

Hi everyone this is my second attempt to complete the Career mode in SH4 v1.4. Weeks ago I only made it to war patrol 4 after which I had CTD when trying to load saved games, resulting in a "Send Error Report" even though my saves were on map screen with no contacts. I know now how and where to save my ingame saves, but would appreshiate it if you would steer me clear of known bugs with say a certain sub or sub base.

From the PC side of things I'm running/forcing 16x AF, 8x AA, transparency AA with all graphics options maxed out at 1280x1024 75Hz, my graphics card has plenty of Vram (768MB) and my system Ram 2GB with 75+ frames per second 100% of the time.
