Default I Preordered SH IV.....BUt

....I never really got into it. Mainly because my rig couldn't do justice to it. Now that situation has been fixed and I have a couple of newbie questions that search function turned up zip.

1. Is there a weather report available in SH IV?

2. Is there an " estimated range remaining report" as there was in SH III?

The few patrols I've done have all had 100% great weather...but I can't expect that to last for the entire 4 1/2 years.....or can I ?

In SH III I used the estimated range remaining report to help me decide when it was time to head for the barn. In SH IV I've been limping in on fumes. I would hate to blow a whole patrol(and maybe even a career?) just because of a wrong fuel estimate.

As usual...TIA

1. Only if you use a mod like Trigger Maru Overhauled.

2. See above.

Even when they are included with a mod like TMO, I rarely use them. I have gotten so use to not using them it really doesn't matter anymore. I like the little fuel bar just fine and when I want to see the weather, it gives me an excuse to go on the bridge. Also, you can tell if the weather is bad if the speed gauge is bobbing all over the place. I also recommend not going over 4096x TC. If you use 8192x TC like I used to, you will find that the weather stays calm for very long periods. It's an issue with the TC system the game uses.

Happy hunting!

Or, you could edit the commands.cfg file to map a key to those commands(which are allready there).

The big mods are great, but sometimes you just want one or two changes without all the other stuff....

Thanks Wetwarev7... I saw those entries in there when I went in to change the fire torpedo to shift + Enter.

Didn't know if it would screw things up or not to assign them a key.

Good to know it won't.

Default Range to end etc

I respectfully disagree with Syxx_Killer about the utility of this function. I find that "range to end" report plus the "range at current speed" at the tail end of a mission are a very handy combination. I know how far I can go on the remaining fuel and if it's less than my plotted course to base then obviously I'm going to run out of fuel and I'll have to adjust speed etc or look for a closer base. Killer is right in that it doesn't get used a lot but if you're low on fuel, heading home and run into some juicy targets then that's when it'll come in handy as your gas guage may not give you accurate enough info.

As to the weather report, TMO has it mapped to Ctrl-W plus an icon button. The one thing I find a bit annoying about the weather report (which Syxx_Killer nailed concisely) is that it reports the current weather NOT upcoming weather which would have been more useful. As Killer says, if you wan't the weather report, stick your head out of the hatch, LOL.

We also have them in RFB.

Pick either for the follow...playability:

TMO or Trigger Maru....has it's fans raving for good solid fun and playabilty
RFP or Real Fleet Boat...has the guys who like a hard core type play.

Pick the following for real vessel traffic/Ultra messages and just plan realistic goodies concerning Japanese and American shipping:

RSRD....Run Silent Run Deep. Hands down the most integral part of the game no matter if you use TMO or RFP. (just make sure you download the correct version for either TMO or RFB)

Environment:

PE2...Pacific Environments....does wonders to the environment. Look in the ROW thread
Environment 4.4....also a great mod for the environment.

You can find these on the mod page and all stickied at the top. However, you need the 1.5 Uboat expansion pack for these.

I'll judge how good they are for myself, but first I have to play a career without them to have a baseline for comparasion.
