Venatore's U-boat Scenario's

Venatore's U-boat Scenario's

I'll give you a scenario with regards to a situation on a U-boat. Reply as if your part of the crew on this U-boat, try to be serious in your reply.

Ok here goes;

Scenario I

The U-boat captain has decided that the officers need to come up with an alternate disciplinary plan for offences committed on the U-boat whilst on war patrols.

The reason for the captain's descion is that some patrols will take up to 4-8 weeks to complete, making the punishments somewhat outdated upon returning to port. He wants minor offences delt with whilst at sea.

The XO has informed you and the other officers of the boat to come to the captains table where you will discuses the scale of punishments for minor service offences that occur on the boat.

The officers gather around and you commence the discussion, men what should be the punishment for a member of the crew who is caught stealing rations? The captains turns his attention to you.....

I thought the problem with U-boats was that they had too much food and couldn't get rid of it all before it spoiled. Still sounds interesting, I'll make a go of it.

I submit that any crewmember who, when rationing is in effect, engages in unauthorized consumption of rations, will forfeit one rationed meal per day for a number of days equal to the number of portions stolen.

From some of the stuff that I've read captains usually dealt with these kinds of infractions by confining the offender to his bunk (when not on duty) for a set period of time.

Unlike commercailly available products, canned food rations aboard U-boats did not have labels. Cans had a number or letter code. This code was known only to the captain & cook. The code system discouraged anyone from getting greedy and sneaking a can of something good (ie. pears, etc.). Foodstuffs like cocoa were usually kept under lock & key by the captain.

Here's another scenario. Matrosengrefreiter Horst W. has been a crewman for 4 patrols and performed his duties beyond reproach. He has also acted in a comradely fashion towards his crewmates. However, on this 5th patrol he has been caught sleeping on watch twice, been insolent to his superiors and has began to sow dissention among the crew with his complaints and idle gossip about other personnel. What is to be done with him? An immediate transfer is out of the question as we're at sea & not due back for at least 1 month...

P.S. Why does my avatar look like George Michael?!! I want another one...

if any seaman is caught stealing rations, He shall stand an extra tour of the watch in the most "delightful" type of weather.

P.S. With Bernard, none the less!!

Default Punishments

From my early days in the Army, the punishments that I remember the most were those that involved long and tedious chores like scrubbing the latrine (Head to you Navy folks) with a tooth brush, spot painting rust, walking tours with a rifle at right sholder arms, digging a 6 foot by six foot by six boot hole and then filling it in. Perhaps moving items from the the bow of the boat to the stern and back that is accomplished along with your normal duty ---worked for me I became a model soldier.

Perhaps we should see to it that the men of his section (the whole crew, may prove too large) decide how much and when the offending seaman is to eat and how long he is to be allocated for a meal break.

Let him serve one hour per crewmember the crew.
They may chose to let him do one hour of their duty or make him wash/clean/repair... their stuff.
That's ~ 50 hours extra duty at the mercy of his comrades.
Additionally I'd let him write an essay about comradeship and stealing to be pinned at the black board. It may make him think.

That happened in the sub that left Germany at the end of the war and made for Brazil. A guy was caught stealing chocolate IIRC. He was dressed down in front of the crew, and confined to quarters. The harshest part of his punishment was that the crew ignored him for several weeks. Solitary confinement is amongst the most severe punishments, which is effectively was this guy got. Perhaps even more severe because there weren't any bars in his "prison", the other crewmembers willfully ignored him.

Apparently after that, he apologized sincerely and became a model sailor for the rest of the voyage.

And man, these rotating pictures (with post count) are getting nasty. Is this my punishment for posting too much?

Matrosen Pfieler, you stand accused of stealing rations. This is unacceptable. Do you have anything do say in your defense?

No?

OK. I now sentence you to...

a boot to the head.

SWISH-THUMP-OWWW!

and one for Jenny and the Wimp...
