Balabae Strait: February 15th, 1942 - sonar contact;1400 hours.
Proceeded to close with the contact which my target identification team had identified with no reservations as a Japanese sub travelling on the surface. The enemy was proceeding in a ESE direction at slow speed though the straits and would pass very close to us. Our final approach from the North made the attack almost too easy and with a nearly perfect firing solution we closed to optimim range of under 700 yards (for absolute identification purposes as well as can't miss solution) before sending our torpedoes on their way. In the end, the enemy never had a chance. Suprisingly, it took two torpedoes to send him to the bottom where he came to his final resting place in just over 600 feet of water... we continued on our way wishing now only to exit the area and leave behind the final resting place of so many of our fellow submariners, enemy or no. Running TMO 152 with RSRD v371 (patch 8) - What a great combination. Not a single enemy contact for 22 days and then BAM- it changes iin an instant with an enemy sub no less! ![]() ![]()

Shouldn't that distance be 700 yards? Your fish need a minimum of 400 yards to arm, and come to course.

I wonder what kind of Japanese sub that is, AFAIK the only I-Boats in the game are the Ko-hyoteki and the I-400, Both of which are too small/big for 1,800 tons
Or is it the Jyunsen B?

At first I thought it was one of keltos01's early attempts at making a playable Japanese Jyunsen B submarine. However, Ducimus answers the question in this thread.
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=137201 It is a modified conning tower on a Type9 hull done by Natilus42. While resembling some of the Japanese conning towers, it does not match any Japanese I-boat conning tower. Closest matches would be I-61, I-65, or I-68; which are Kaidai Type 4, type 5, and Type 6A respectively. See: http://www.combinedfleet.com/type_kd4.htm http://www.combinedfleet.com/type_kd5.htm http://www.combinedfleet.com/type_kd6.htm |

The rudder looks like a german sub, not japanese.

I'll take it. The point of the thread was that they are out there and sinkable. I also noted that the sub was at battle stations when I first detected it. I wonder if it would have attacked had it detected me, before I detected it. That would have been an unpleasant ending to the patrol. ![]() == And Takao - THANK YOU for the links!!

((OOC: Attacked with the Deck Gun maybe, It can't really submerge or attack with torpedoes due to engine limitations))
I'm glad you did spot her before, fellow skipper There might be better strategic targets, like Carriers or Battleships, but there's really nothing like winning against your opposites in the other side (Even though I heard USN skippers held a lot of respect to their Axis counterparts, atleast the Germans)
