question about CTD

i did no modchanges and i played via SH3commander latest version and i had a CTD
It was my 4th patrol without changing anything
is it true that saving your game when submerged wil cause CTD (i use GWX 2.1)

Whether you play stock, GWX or whatever, one of the cardinal sins is saving whilst submerged.

Why?

I made this reply in another thread:
I've heard that a lot on this forum, but I do it quite often. Maybe I've been lucky so far, I haven't had any problems.

I try to avoid it but it gets frustrating when you spend so much time making a submerged approach and the game crashes on you and you have to start over. Once I made a submerged approach, hit my target, and just after I surfaced to watch his death throes.....CTD.
I hadn't saved in a while and had to redo the approach.

Crashes don't happen very often but they occasionally do, so I try to save fairly often, even when submerged.

I have NEVER had a CTD after saveing while submurged.
But it does happen!!
Infact?
The only CTD's I've ever had come from mods I work on.
But I am the exception, not the Rule!!
There are so many things that can cause CTD's when it comes to SH3.
The biggest bug still hideing is the SuperNatural ability to CTD
for no reason I can discern other then we weren't holding our lips right!

It's only a matter of time before you have a CTD!
Beware!

Letum's tips to prevent CTDs:
  • If running windows XP disable those information baloons that pop up in the taskbar. To do this see the bottom of my post.
  • Close down all programs you are not using. EndItAll is a good program to help with this.
  • If you are not playing online, disconnect your PC and turn off any anti-virus or firewalls.
  • Be very careful when doing anything above. If you don't know what you are doing and the effects it will have, then don't do it. Any changes you make are at your own risk.
Disableing pop-up Baloons (XP ONLY).
Pop-up Baloons caused crashes on SH3 for me every time one popped up. To fix this:

Quote:
Copy the following into notepad...

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\... ntVersion\Explorer\Advanced]
"EnableBalloonTips"=dword:00000000

...and save the file as disableballoons.reg
Double-click on that disableballoons.reg, restart your computer and no more balloons

The above changes fixed all my crashes and SH3 runs very stable for me now.

What's the matter bud....having a bad day

FYI the SH3 Forum has never and IMO will never become a closed club.

What has a GWX sig got to do with whether someones face fits or not.

FYI the GWX sig is the teams symbol or identity.....worn by those who have earned it and in so doing contributed to what is most probably the most popular and widely used free mod this community has ever witnessed.

FYI GWX is currently being used by thousands (yes thousands of sub simmers)....nothing particularly 'closed club' about that!!

Come to think of.....how many people are using your sig ?

Could this be interpreted as a sign of elitism perhaps

As far as joking and banter goes on this forum....I see you haven't been a member long, so do yourself a favour and take the time to search the threads a bit and I reckon you'll soon come to the realisation that joviality and banter plays a large integral part in this lively and friendly community we have here.

I've had a look through your posting history and notice it's not the first time you've turned a thread sour by making an comment.

Have a nice day
