Errors - need help!

Well I have been having trouble with SH3. The detection tool says that the system is compliant to all the minimum requirements to be able to play the game, but not the recommended requirements for memory. Anyway, when I start the game the movie plays and then the SH3 logo appears along with the red loading bar. It loads but then the game just goes back to my desktop. I dont know whats happening. I have deleted some useless other files to make room for the game. This problem happened before when I installed it, but I cannot remember what I did to make it work. Could somebody please help?

Thanks

What are your system specs and is it the stock game you are attempting to install ? :hmm:

Yeah, I am trying to install the stock normal version, I dunno what it is. When it goes off it just says ''computer trying to make more memory, some appplications may not work aswell etc.'' But when this happened before I did something on the control panel, or somewhere around there, and I pressed something and it made the game work.

Complicated or what?

Sounds like your machine is a little on the low end if your having trouble with insufficient resources.

What are its specs ?

Start>control panel>system>?

edit: that was a little brusque. Not sure how much computer experience you have but remember that vista consumes and inordinate amount of RAM.
Try going to /config in the "run" menu and disable anything that is definitely unecessary at starup (i.e. anything with AOL, trial programs, telephony, auto-update)

Solution b) Get an imac. Even if your vista crashes catastrophically you can always remove it and re-install it from the mac portion of the drive. Plus it looks sexy and takes up much less space.

your machine is telling you that it needs to extend its virtual memory to run the game and if cant do so for whatever reason it cant run the game

Edit ...yes add more ram or shut down what ever program you have running at the same time as SH3 that may free up some ram

Get you a second 512MB of RAM! Quite cheap!

Try this:
open Control Panel -> System -> Choose Tab Expanded -> System Performance/Properties -> Check "for optimal performance" -> Choose Tab Expanded -> Virtual Memory click "Change" -> Check "User Defined Size" and insert recommended size (stated on same screen) for Minimum -> insert the doubled size for Maximum -> Ok Ok Ok!

Run the game!

I don't know the correct expressions in english, but they should be similar.
Note the original settings - just in case something gets messed up!

RAM is definitely low, but I know folk who have managed the game with the same amount.

Your best chance is to stop all other background programmes, but your ideal solution is to expand your RAM to at least 1 preferably 2GB if you are able.

I took your advice, thanks!

It loads up the menu, and all that. But I've tried putting some missions on, and just as the loading bar for the missions completes, I receive a ''Silent Hunter 3 has found an error and needs to close.''

Eeeeemmm:hmm: is this a Re-install we are talking about if so did you delete all the folders that remain on your hard drive after you uninstalled the first version ?? and also the SH3 folder in your programs if you had mods installed in you last version and you didn't remove the folder SH3 maybe this is causing the problem..

or did you try to incress the vidio settings on start up why did you have to do an Re-install what was the problem that arose :hmm:
