Neutral my butt!

So I'm surfaced in BD 29 at ahead 1/3 when all of a sudden I'm getting shelled from afar. I dive to periscop and find it's a squadron of 6 American destroyers. I'm thinking that's a little weird that they initiated contact in November 1941 so I play it cool...that's when the depth charges come. The first lot hit when I'm still only at 130metres and it hammers me big time.. For the next 5 hours I'm getting creamed as the damage I've sustained limits my depth to 80 metres (or hull integrity degrades and I flood). So I decide enough is enough - at 17% hull (and now to 50 metres) I've given them enough of a head start and I fire back. I sink 5 of them before the last decides to run home to mumma.

Anyway, they were the first ships I'd sunk on the patrol and when I get back I get negative reknown for sinking them (they also showed up green on the map), unless it was for 12 dead crew men I suffered.

Someone on the BdU staff care to explain that for me..
