Default Anything better than WinRar?

I am so fed up with WinRar I could scream. Sometimes I will try uncompressing a mod and it will say a file is corrupt. If I try again it works fine. It may work fine for a few times. Then, it might come back showing many, many files of the mod as corrupt, yet when I check them, especially image files, they look fine. Then, if I try uncompressing again, it may work ok. I am so sick of it. Is there anything better than WinRar out there?

I use Winrar and encounter some problems..although Winrar is better than this, try Winzip...I use the free version of Winrar, the versions of Winrar that you can buy MAY be better, and as for Winzip I have only tried it one time and I didn't like it, but you might.

7 Zip http://www.7-zip.org/ is my favorite compression utility.

From their web site:
The main features of 7-Zip
  • High compression ratio in new 7z format with LZMA compression
  • Supported formats:
    • Packing / unpacking: 7z, ZIP, GZIP, BZIP2 and TAR
    • Unpacking only: RAR, CAB, ISO, ARJ, LZH, CHM, MSI, WIM, Z, CPIO, RPM, DEB and NSIS
  • For ZIP and GZIP formats, 7-Zip provides a compression ratio that is 2-10 % better than the ratio provided by PKZip and WinZip
  • Strong AES-256 encryption in 7z and ZIP formats
  • Self-extracting capability for 7z format
  • Integration with Windows Shell
  • Powerful File Manager
  • Powerful command line version
  • Plugin for FAR Manager
  • Localizations for 69 languages
7-Zip works in Windows 98/ME/NT/2000/XP/Vista. There is a port of the command line version to Linux/Unix.
*and it is FREE

I agree with Scott, I either use Winzip or 7zip, usually 7zip. I have used WinRar without problems but the other two are much better, IMHO.

Thanks guys. I have WinZip and have used it for years. I just don't really care for its layout and such. I don't know what new versions are like, but WinZip 8.0 which I have is kind of clunky. I will give 7-Zip a try. I used it brifly a long time ago, but will look at it more seriously now.

Edit:

I downloaded and tried 7-Zip. I hope I'm not speaking too soon, but so far I love it! It has some neat features like actually being able to test the archive to see if it is corrupt. Oddly enough, what WinRar said was "corrupt" 7-Zip says is fine. Plus, my favorite feature of all - it's free! No more stupid pop-up every time I run it. I have since uninstalled WinZip and WinRar. I'm sticking with 7-Zip! Thanks again!

What??? You don't like WinRar's popups? What's wrong with you?

I dumped it for good a few weeks ago. For all Rar files I just right-click and when it says 'Open with...?', I hit 7-Zip. I think it's the best. (was gonna say "for my money", but it's free)

I've used 7-Zip for several years now. Whenever I opened something that was packaged with WinRar I had to look at the "Buy me now!" message. I finally got rid of it. Any Rar file I right-click on and "Open With?" - 7Zip. No nasty messages, no problems, ever.

Thanks again, guys! It seems the more I use 7-Zip the more I love it! It is so streamlined and to the point. You can navigate, I think, more easily in 7-Zip than WinRar or WinZip. I love the 7z compression, too. I did some tests with some skins I had unzipped. Compared to Rar, 7z compressed them to about half of what the Rar was!
