Gentlemen
The root cause of the “huge” save data files is what we call here at work a “Divide by 0” problem. When the software is doing “number crunching”, it can some times run into a problem were the software cannot resolve a number conversion and the software starts “throwing” software exceptions to “standard out”. That why the save files are so big, because their full of these “error messages”. I the case of the TypeVIIC, the cause was the submerge range in the NSS_xxxx.sim file As a friend of mine said “this most ancient of all bugs", has been in the SH4 code since day “one” and I would not be surprised if it is also in SH3. Therefore, any mod maker that makes changes to values in the .sim file be forewarned, test your changes for this bug. To quickly recreate the problem, create a “quick mission” with only a sub in it. Place to subs location somewhere remote (I use the coast of South America) then launch the mission. Once the mission is up and running, plot a random course covering about 12 hours of travel. Set TC to 2048 and let it run for about 30 seconds, then check the size of the save.tmp file in C:\Documents and Settings\xxxx\My Documents\SH4\data\ Last edited by lurker_hlb3; 05-21-08 at 07:23 PM. |

Don't know if it makes any difference but I'm running out of Midway 10/43 Balao. About 2/3 way to bongo straits and the saves are getting larger (323mb).
SH4 1.5 Foos skins RSM couple radio mods PE 3.3 RFB1.5 RSRDC v395

Yea!! This should help people with this problem in the future. Perhaps making it a sticky would be advantageous.
