Default Merchant Fleet Mod Sneak Peek # 1: The Tankers

Okay, as the title indicates this is a blatant rip-off of the GWX previews. It's an introduction to a few of the ships being designed for the Merchant Fleet Mod. Keep in mind that not all of the vessels included in the mod are depicted, and that the ships here will often have several paint schemes for different shipping lines, will be assigned to several different nations, and will change in appearance as the war goes on (if you use SH3 Commander).

On to the tankers:

A large American design dating from WWI. The paint scheme is for Socony-Vacuum (neutrality version, 1939 - early 1942). I designed a ship like it a long time ago but I restarted from scratch since the proportions & details seemed off. It incorporates a lot of features that I used on the latest Empire Freighter - better deckhouses, different lifeboats, and a 3d deckhouse. The framerate impact has been slight, and I have not noticed major slowdowns in convoys, which was a pleasant surprise.

The 3rd mast is supposed to be shorter than the other two; I have no idea why they looked like that in real life. The ship can have symmetrical hull text and symmetrical funnel logos.

A smaller design based on old-fashioned British ships. The tonnage will probably be 5500 - 6000 GRT.

A slightly larger version with modified structural features.

A large, 12,500 ton modern tanker in a paint scheme for the Panama Transport Co. Another very heavily revised ship...

A large 1920's era tanker based on some ships built in Germany for Dutch companies. The 4-level bridge was a pretty strange-looking feature compared to other ships. The tonnage will be 8,500 GRT.

Some pictures of damage testing, which is being done with the latest version of the GWX mod. The ships usually take from 1-3 torpedoes to sink. If they are set to have a cargo of Fuel or Ammunition they nearly always take just one torpedo.

A large, modern tanker that is "on the drawing board".
