I've recently gone to Vista and have had difficulty enabling mods via JSGME. For those having similar difficulties, here is the fix (apologies if this has been done before - I searched and couldn't find the answer):
1. Open up 'Program files' in the relevant drive 2. Right click on 'Ubisoft' and open properties 3. Click on 'Security' tab 4. Click on 'Users (your name)' in the 'Group or user names' window 5. Click 'Edit' below the box 6. Highlight 'Users (your name)' 7. Click the 'Full control' check box in the 'Permissions for Users' window 8. Click 'Apply' This allows you full control of the Ubisoft folder and has allowed me to enable all mods via JSGME.

Thanks!
i'm a Vista user and i read some time ago to put SH3 main directory out of program folder, i.e. just put it in C. This because presumably some properties of Program folder could be protected in the users account. This may help with other problems.. |

Correct. Fundamentally you can avoid all this hassle by simply installing any moddable game *outside* of Program Files, say direct to somewhere like <driveletter>:\Games\. Even better if you install to a drive other than C: drive, or other than wherever your pagefile is located.

If you aren't using GWX, 2.0 comes with JSGME btw, right click on the JSGME installer & choose "Run as administrator" and, as others have said before, make sure that you install SH3 outside of the Program Files folder.
P.S. You may also want to disable UAC (User Account Control) in User Accounts in the Control Panel. It keeps Windows from always asking you if you want to install or run applications. It can easily be re-enabled (sp?) in User Accounts in the Control Panel. While UAC is useful as a security measure, it's a bit annoying when you want to do something simple like defragment the hard drive. Last edited by Murr44; 05-03-08 at 10:50 PM. |
