Default Ubi now free to do Tom Clancy sub Game

Ubisoft has acquired the Tom Clancy name outright in connection with video games this would theoretically allow them to produce a subsim game in under the Tom Clancy name without paying additional licensing fees, should they decide to diversify the brand into the simulation arena.
See the press release here.

In an additional aside Paramount has acquired the "Jack Ryan" name and are apparently developing a new movie with it but wierdly it is not based on one of Mr Clancy's books.

RSR would make an unreal game but I almost wonder weather they should do a series instead. It would probably turn out better that way.

A 'Red Storm' series covering various theaters and platforms would be awesome.

On the other hand, so would some game where I get to skulk around in backalleys as Mr. Clark and kill pimps for, literally, practice.

It would be neat if you could play as either side.

That's a good idea, and one I'd certainly like to see in a sequel.

I don't know if the RSR rights are with Sid Meier or not, he received a lot of his old titles from Atari a while back. He stated at one point that he would quite like to do a sequel, but the royalties for the RSR name/storyline would be the sticking point.

I think a lot of people here have great memories of the original game & would love to see a sequel even under a different title. And given its non visual nature it would not be a huge project to upgrade the original.

Yes. I think you are right, but saying that, already they have decided to bring out the HAWX action/flightsim under the Clancy name so who knows where this could go!
