Default 100 Years of Submarines

Did anyone catch the special on History International channel called 100 Years of Submarines the US Submarine Service?

I highly recommend it, if you get a chance to watch it. They have interviews with Eugene Flucky and several other WWII sub vets. It is a fantastic review of how the sub service came into its own from pre war doctrine to taking the war to Japan. The second hour is about the atomic submarine and how during the war games with the USS Nautilus (SSN 571) the ASW forces fired several thousand weapons at her but she wasn't touched. Meanwhile, she had 100% hit ratio. The captain talked about how he fired the last 4 exercise torpedoes at 4 ships and waited until just before sunrise so they could see that they were gotten. It really brought home the submarines and targets saying.

Me too, did you guys see the declassified footage of that U.S. sub taking photos through the periscope of that russian warship from almost directly underneath it? They were watching the double screws turning and mapping every section under that ship without it knowing they were there.

I also was amazed to see the footage of the U.S. sub watching the Russian missile test and watching where the missile body fell into the ocean. Sort of funny to hear the crew who seemed to be cheering on the Russians as they fired their missile at a test target! Really neat stuff, and the WW2 portion was well done too I thought.
