Default Mig-29 - 1, Hermes 450 - 0

Russia has apparently shot down a Georgian UAV.

Video and article here.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/7358761.stm

Sure as hell looks like a MiG-29 and not an L-39.

Impressive footage of what looks like a Mig-29 pulling in behind the UAV before blasting it out of the sky with an air to air missile.

Cool footage.

I do chuckle at how darn shamelessly casual Georgian officals are over the whole "georgian territory" and "abkhaz separatist rebels" thing. Honestly, ticks me off that America is providing military support to them.

I'm curious what Russia's side of the story is. You're right, that's definitely a MiG-29.

Wow...that's not the kind of footage you see every day...

Bit overkill though...could have just closed the gap and used guns if you're going to blow your ID like that.

What I find ironic is that a resurgent Russia is stepping up against Georgia, the birthplace of Joseph Stalin.

I like the double standards used by Russia - Kosovo's not allowed to be independant of Serbia But they'll supply aid and weapons to Abkhasia and South Ossetia against Georgia:hmm:

You know, that logic could be turned around. The NATO supports Kosovo independence from Serbia but they supply weapons to Georgia to suppress the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

Eh, it's a double-standard world. Frankly, let's throw out comparisons to regions that have nothing to do with the Caucasus here. They're not going to do any good. The fact is that Georgia's regime is officially very not nice and extremely nationalistic, not to mention with a very bad history with Abkhaz and Ossetians who counted on Russia's patronage for a long, long time now for protection from Georgia's own ambitions in the region. However you slice that, it's a fact and it has nothing to do with Kosovo. Let's keep the topic in focus here. For one, Georgian promises to celebrate the next year in Tshinvali (which they repeated a number of years in a row now) have always sent shivers up my spine. Last time we've had Georgia's way in Tshinvali or Sukhumi, things were not pretty.

For me footage looks like CG stuff. I extremely like MIG-29's and our Air Forces in general but this video looks very much like graphics. But if it is for real then kudos to the fighter pilot and to Hermes 450 operator Thanks for the show guys

I think this will become a sort of military meme now. I for one welcome the deluge of footage from target drones equipped with cameras that is likely to beset us in the near future
