I would like a modder’s opinion about this.
The GWX team announced that after their 2.1 update, they will no longer mod SH3 (they have done a fantastic job), and some modders (for example Mikhayl) mentioned the possibility of doing something for SH4. Is the GWX team going to start working (maybe after a long break) on SH4 as well? It would be a logical decision, since IMO what makes or breaks simulations (Silent Hunter, Operation Flashpoint, Falcon 4) is the amount of community support for the sim. It makes sense to support a newer engine, and I’m incredibly grateful for the awesome work of the modders for Silent Hunter III. To give another example, I don’t know how many hours I spent playing Operation Flashpoint thanks to the awesome mods that were made for it, however I’m looking forward to the release of Armed Assault 2 (of course if the developers don’t mess it up, which I don’t think they will) because it will –hopefully- take advantage of newer technology (more cores and more effective use of graphics cards=more details and somewhat smoother gameplay). I will never forget how much fun I had playing OFP, just like I will always remember how much fun I had with SH3 and the mods that were made for it. But now that SH4 has U-boats I’m wondering if we’re seeing the logical migration to SH4. As far as I’m concerned the incredible work of the SH3 modders won’t be forgotten. I wish I was a millionaire in order to give you guys a more solid proof of appreciation. Anyway, I’d like a modder to please tell me point-blank if this is the case, or if I’m reading too much into things. |

From what I heard the SH4 U-boat addon doesn't add a U-boat campaign, it just adds some single missions and an awful lot of bugs. So it sounds to me like there's still plenty of room for a modder-made U-boat "eXpansion"

What do you want to bet, that the modder-made U-boat Expansion will be 10 times better than any "payware"(Cough cough, choke & puke) expansion Ubisoft can produce. Not only better, but FREE

Having played the hell out of SH3 and now into 4, mods have made a huge difference with both games

what ever happens it's been one hell of a roller coaster ride. If the ride shuts down and the lights get turned off and everyone goes home, I will wait in the shadows, patently, till someone dusts off the leaver which starts the ride again and say do you want a hand to push start this roller coaster

My copy of SH4 + UBM is on its way through the channel and should be in the mail shortly. I got it (game+expansion) for 30€ through game.co.uk, for that price I just expect it to be better than SH3 out of the box. From a "modder" point of view I just hope that some annoying limitations & glitches are gone. Personnaly I'm not waiting for another Atlantic theatre, I find refreshing the slightly alternate history campaign with the type XVIII, all I want is a XXIII

Since it's official that many SH3 modders will work on SH4 it will be an easy decision for me to buy a copy of SH4 with the U-boat pack (after I enjoy some GWX 2.1 + RB's effects with Rubini's new water streams, etc.).

Was it a vanilla SH4 or did you have the U-boats as well?

The addon adds some great things to the sh4 game . I am enjoying the pacific campaign . But the uboat campaign being remade by GWX team reminds me of well , frankenstein trying to piece together a monster bit by bit . Good luck and i am sure it will rise from the table and conquer the world . cheers sober out .
