Basic tweak question
Hello!
I tried to tweak Gato's range on surface. Original values were 14140,0 miles with 10,0 knt speed. I changed the values to be 16270,0 miles with 6,0 knt speed. To be sure I tweaked both original Data file + TMO162, i.e. only files with Submarine file. Results: when asking navigator he gives about 5000 miles for 6 knot speed! Things I made in order: 1. Opened Gato NSS file with tweaker and navigate to ranges. 2. Changed both range and speed values. 3. Saved the file and closed the tweaker. 4. Run the game. Obviously something happened as ranges were changed (in wrong way). Anyone? Greetings, -RC- |

did you then go into the game file and remove the "copy of" file so it will work, with tweaker you have to do that.
and why arent you using s3d instead of mini tweaker? |

Hello Webster!
And thanks! No, I didn't remove any files so... But I actually use s3d, and not any tweaker, sorry. Is it wrong to speak about tweaking if using s3d? (Sorry, but I'm total noob with these programs - as you can see. Only thing I have done before is editing some files with notepad... ![]() edit: I checked the files and there is just one sim. file, so s3d don't create copys automaticly, right? Greetings, -RC- Last edited by Rosencrantz; 04-02-09 at 12:12 PM. Reason: rechecked game files |

mini tweaker needed special tweak files written to tell it where to look and make changes in files and every file needed a seperate tweak file written for it. then when you made changes it used to rename the original file "copy of xyz" and you had to move it out of the file or the game would still use it even though it was named "copy of" so to get your tweaker modded file to work you had find the "copy of" file and it had to be moved somewhere safe and kept as a backup to restore the game file later.
thats why s3d is so great, you dont have all that bs lol. |

well here is the actual specs on a gato class fleet sub: GATO CLASS Test Depth - 300 ft / 90 m Crush Depth: 450 ft (approx) / 135m (approx) Displacement: 1549 tons surfaced, 2463 tons submerged Length: 311'8" Beam: 27'3" Draft: 17' Speed: 21 knots surfaced, 9 knots submerged Armament: 1 3"/50 or 1 4"/50 or 1 5"/50, 6 bow and 4 stern torpedo tubes, 24 21" torp AA Armament: 1 or 2 40mm single, or 1 or 2 20mm single, or 2 .50 MG, or 2 .30 MG Complement: 60 Diesel-Electric Drive: 4 Diesel engines/ 4 electric motors: 5400hp surf. / 2740hp submerged Range: 11,000 nm @ 10knots surface / 100 nm @ 3 knots submerged if your having trouble with fuel range try staying at 9 kts surfaced as much as possible for the max fuel efficiency and range the game already fudges and gives you added range probably accounting for the sailors trick of filling the balast tanks with extra fuel instead of seawater if you need more than that why not just turn off the fuel box and use limitless fuel |

Could it be that your crew calculated the range at your current speed or at max speed?
To be most fuel effency you should run the sub at 6 knot all the time to reach that 16270 miles. If you run your sub at 20 knots the range will be like 4800 miles (16270*6)/20=4881 miles. At 6 knots. (16270*6)/6= 16270 Miles Or perhaps there is a bug where the crew allways return the value calculated for full speed?
