It's worth the $10. I modified my saved game file to promote me to the highest rank to mess with all of the support assets. I have now become addicted to directing crusiers and merchant cruisers all over the Indian Ocean sinking convoys. I spend more time setting up an interdiction point with a merchant cruiser than I do with my own boat. If I run into something, fine. If not, I have a fleet of pirates to keep me busy. Aaargggh!

Well I've played it straight,
cursed at many dozens of airplanes (forgot how nasty they are when you don't have radar), used the scout planes until I was sent out of their range (what's with no air base at Rabaul? That was the biggest one in the whole area!), did the Dick O'Kane thing on about 30k tons of shipping, played with the linked periscope/TDC. It's been tremendous fun and I'd recommend it to anyone.
Let's see, $10 expended, about 20 hours so far, that's about 50¢ an hour. It's not exactly a tough decision whether it's worth it!
