Anyone seen it? Wow, that ship really went for a ride when it "landed" on the sea floor. Pretty good documantary about the Death Star of warships.
It must have been wild to see those 1-ton shells coming for you. ![]()

I saw it several years ago. If I remember correctly, Titantic actor Bill Paxton narrates and appears in a few scenes.
Now if we could just get Cameron to do a Sink the Bismarck movie updated with CGI . :hmm: |

Or even better, get Ridley Scott to do it. I thought about this as I was watching the docummentary, it has all the drama you`ll need.
![]() The knockout on the Hood, followed by some damage that forces the Bismarck to go a bit below top speed. Then the biplanes(!) and their insane charge with torpedoes to slow her down even more, which leaves the Bismarck crippled with a busted rudder. All about the men being told to get whatever they want from the storages onboard, and get ready for the final battle as all of Churchills ships close in from all sides. Oh, and the pilot who was supposed to be sent off with the war documents and final goodbye`s from the sailors, but couldnt because of a faulty launch mechanism. 2000+ shells were fired at the Bismarck, and 700+ of those were huge shells from f.i. 14 inch guns. Great tragedy for the thousands that died in the cold water, but also a great story, this. Much like the Death Star in Star Wars.

The story does need a good update, especially on the characters. The 1960 movie portrays Admiral Lutjens as some sort of wild-eyed Nazi with visions of wiping the Atlantic clean of shipping. In fact, Lutjens was quite the fatalist and felt the mission was doomed from the start.

Next they will make a movie on how the yanks managed to grab an enigma machine on some daring mission...
![]() ![]() :rotfl: If the problem with bismark is that it faired poorly when just using the different engines to change direction. if they could do this correctly and drop off the rudder it may have been a different story.

![]() Anyway, there's apparently going to be a movie about the plot to kill Hitler in the next several months or so - hopefully this will generate renewed interest in WWII films - particularly, films that have realistic Axis characters in them. |

Oh, come on. U-571 wasn't that bad of a film. It was pretty enjoyable actually. No Das Boot, mind you, but films like Das Boot are very rare in today's film society. At least U-571 revived the memory of the submarine fleets of the Kriegsmarine.
