Default Respect

Guys,

Can I just make the point that it really should be possible to enjoy a thread about creating an Atlantic campaign within Silent Hunter 4, without it degrading into yet another SH3 V SH4 argument by people smart enough to know better. Recently, such a thread was correctly locked by the Mods because it degraded into "my dad's better than your dad".

The fact of the matter is that U Boats are now a part of Silent Hunter 4. Currently they exist in the Indian Ocean, but common sense tells you that an Atlantic campaign is coming.

There are those who will play the US Pacific game only. There are those who will play the U Boat Atlantic game only, and there are those like me who will play both.

Let's respect each others preferences and behave like adults.

I hope this thread is not used for yet more petulent nonsense.

I agree with you TDK. I don't see why some people can't be happy. I don't have a problem with someone adding an Atlantic campaign becuase all it does is add more content into SHIV. I wish more modding communities were like this one. (Where you pretty much have a mod for everything) I do remember seeing a show on the Histoy channel saying there were U-boats in the Pacific. The big type IX boats sent supplies to Japan, such as: German Radar Technology and I even remember seeing on the History Channel that the German's sent what they had figured out about their the Atomic Bomb program to the Japanese in the late war.

I agree with you, rebel. This modding community is excellent. My post is simply an appeal for common sense to prevail.

It's not the campaign, its peoples attitudes, and inability to show said respect. Someone wants to play the Atlantic theater, fine.. more power to you.

I want to make something abundantly clear. THIS:

Quote:
It just had to happen, now that SH4 has been beta tested by those Pacific lovers its time to create the "real" submarine campaign
Is not what you say to people who have waited since 1996 - 1997 for the next Pacific submarine sim. Thats, 11 to 12 years of a wait. Let me say that again, that was ELEVEN TO TWELEVE YEARS of a wait. Since that time, submarine sims have for the most part, been uboats regurgitated again, and again. Which only adds to frustration since its not waht you really wanted.

Now Since the games release, i have probably spent about 4 to 6 hours a day (sometimes longer) , often working tell 2 or 3AM in the morning, on trying to improve the game that ive waited so long for, and i know im not the only one who's slaving away on the game.

And then you have people with the above quoted attitude or one similar to it. What type of reaction would you expect? When people keep coping up this egotistical uboat superiority attude, all it makes me want to do, is reach through the monitor and throttle somebody.

Respect? Last i checked, it was earned. PARTICUARLLY now. And quite frankly "we" (pacific fans) were here (sh4) first. When people come in here with attuitudes like the one above, it feels like somebody just walked into my house and shat on the floor.

Regardless of how the forum moderators try and steer the community, i think everyone is too set in their ways. Im willing to work with others, but they have to put their Das Boot E-Pien back in their pants first - and i REALLY doubt THAT will ever happen. I highly suggest making a SH4 uboat addon mod forum. It will make it easier, less stressful, and less confusing for everybody.

Duci, you've worked tirelessly on behalf of end users of Silent Hunter 4. Your TM mod has been a huge part of my enjoyment of this game since day one, and I sincerely thank you for that, but words are just words. If someone from the SH3 game wants to push your buttons, smile and have another beer. Life's too short, man.

Gotta agree with Ducimus, we need a separate SH:UM modding forum. There's quite a bit of "bad blood" between the Atlantic & Pacific players that it will be certain that there will be fights/debates breaking up once in awhile. Also, it would make the modding forum less growded, making it easier to find stuff and keep track on things.

I really don't want this generating into another 'us versus them' thread so I'm closing it.
