Hi Compadre, in uboat mission there are way too many task forces if you have map contacts turned on. Or if you mean the stock game with RSRD, then my limited 2 cents will be to hunt for the major events. there's some timeline here you can check for pacific war events -
http://www.historyplace.com/unitedst...r/timeline.htm

specifically, if you just start off your career, try to patrol around the wake islands first when the jap invasion began (around dec 23, 1941 i think). there are heck lot of TFs in that area. I had multiple successful interceptions there.

Other good places to hunt for TFs will be during like Midway battle, etc..I once encountered a huge convoy of more than 50 ships (mostly merchants) in the battle of java sea...a buffet I can never finish..

anyways, GL hunting kaleun.

i ran into a taskforce with a shokaku CV and a bunch of escorting cruisers in selat karimata in early '42 (between sumatra and borneo)... it was either jan. or feb. of '42

It's funny. People are always asking where the task forces / convoys are in RSRD and I can't seem to NOT run ito them.

Now if it wasn't for those @%#*& pre 1943 mark 14's, I might actually be able to sink something too.

I typed up a pretty exhaustive Excel spreadsheet showing when and where major battles took place. Knowing this information will help you to find the big targets, since mods like RSRDC place them strategically based on current operations/timeline. Borneo is a great place to find captial ships in ealry '42, but eventually you'll only see lone tankers and merchants.

Ports like Truk and Rabaul are always good places to hunt around for task forces or lone warships.

Try The Slot (between Bouganville and Guadalcanal) in August - September '42 and be prepared to be swamped by BB, Cruiser and "Tokyo Express" convoys.

It's a bit of a cheat but you'll even a Sub Tender located at the SW end of The Slot to replenish all those full-tube spreads you'll be hurling at 30kt BBs!
