Default US Troops on Canadian soil? Or vice versa?

If I saw foriegn troops activily patrolling and armed outside my house, I would personally open fire. Something is wrong here.... http://www.canada.com/vancouversun/n...a-f82134b92e7e

What would be the problem? If there is an agreement there is an agreement. All this does is pave the way if there is a need for us as well as them. I don't think you will see them cross just to go to a Kentucky Fried Chicken or McDonald's and they aren't Russians or Venezuelan. I really don't see an issue here. To me it's just common sense and a good idea.

In case of a civil emergency.

Natural disaster, maybe?

Yar, shoot 'em.

I see a bad idea here. I see erosion of people civil rights in each country. Because bigger military powers have bigger muscle to flex in smaller foreign lands and annex certain laws that would normally protect locals.

I know governments abuse powers and when they pass laws in secret well no citizen will benefit from it. Only select elitist interest groups will gain from lucrative close door dealings. Anyhow thats my 10cents to this post.

I think the significance of this could well be overstated.

Quite a few countries have US and UK forces stationed in them. Take Germany as an example. Largely the US has never needed measures like this and I'm sure Canadian or US troops would only ever cross the border in extremis. Most likely as someone posted in the case of a natural disaster or the like.

What I don't understand is that if this agreement is all friendly and for the mutual benefit of all citizens, why was it not announced?

Did this even come up for debate in any of the congresses/parliaments?
And most importantly, who will profit monetarily from this agreement?

I'd be proud that the Canadians thought enough of us to help defend our nation and i'd be quite willing to help Canada defend their country from attack.

That's what good neighbors do.

It isn't helping us defend our nation that is at stake. It is for Civil Unrest.

which allows the military from one nation to support the armed forces of the other nation in a civil emergency.
THis is the government securing its back if the people don't go along with what they say. That is the problem.

I should imagine if either of the countries were in need of urgent military assistance, whether because of a disater or invasion, there would be almost automatic assistance given.

Thats the point - it is not about disaster or invasion relief. Its like our governments are expecting civil unrest from its citizens.

Perhaps you should bear that in mind next time a US servicman gets killed overseas.
Get a fecking grip, you are not being invaded.

There are armed US Troops here in the UK. Should I open fire?:rotfl:

Not sure whether laughter or pity is the order of the day here.

But I somewhat doubt Canada's bothered.

Over a million US troops have passed through Ireland over the last 5 years. Hmmm.
