About the deck gun

Hi guys,
I'm new to Sh4 and have a problem concerning the deck gun.
I started a career with a porpoise class, based at pearl harbor and now it's february 1942.
Here is my problem: My sub had a 50cal 3" stern mounted deck gun, so I changed it to a 50cal 4" stern mounted (or something like that, I can't remember the exact names).
After my first patrol I decided to change it with the bow mounted, payed 400 renown, but then I started the 2nd patrol and I still have the stern mounted, so after the 2nd patrol I tried to change it to the 50cal 3" bow mounted but the same result, paid 200 renown and I still have the stern mounted gun.
What am I doing wrong?
(the game is stock)

PS. In captain's office screen on the captain's desk are to pictures one for the crew and one showing a sailor and it flashes when I move the pointer on it, clicked it a couple times but nothing happened, what is this picture for?
