Default upgrading my Video Card

to a Sapphire ATI HD 3650 512 VRAM AGP

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102814

lemme tell you my system specs

(I dunno my MoBo other than it runs AGP 8x)
3gb Kingston Ram
400W Power supply
AMD 3200+ 2.1 GHz Processor.

I think this is a good idea, I am replacing my visiontek HD2400 256 because the 2400 was just a quick fix for the death of my X1600 card,

My pc should be able to play Far Cry 2, Assassins Creed, SH4 (of course) X-plane 9, and ArmA on mid-high setting

right?

PS. im getting this the week after next. long wait

I think a nice ati radeon 1950 pro would better suit your needs.
Its only dx9 but it was quite a performer in its day and much much better than the ati 3650 you want to buy.

HD3650 is entry level card, not sure if it's worth it.

If you have LCD screen, I hope it's native res is 1024*768 or not much more than that, or the card is not gonna be happy.

Get a 4770. It is way better than your 3650, but still is only $100 and can actually run Crysis with high detail and a decent res.

It is the budget card to get. Read up here:
http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3553

Best bang for the buck - as fast as a 4850 on a budget price!

well my heart was never really with the HDnnnn series, but its a step up from what I have/had, and, ive watched videos on youtube with guys testing the HD3650 on a lot of games i have (or wanted) and my system is slightly better/equal to theirs, and I liked what I saw.

also, arclight, I've just got my ole 1024*768 monitor to put it on anyways ("if your old monitor still works fine, you don't need a flatscreen" says my dad) so I'm fine with that. also, I did my research, I read all the reviews on Newegg and abroad, and I can almost set it up now without looking in the box.
the main reason I'm getting it is for the 512 VRAM, my X1650 had that and everything ran fine, i just like it that way because my MoBo's maxed out at 3 gigs

An HD3650 will not play what you want it to play. It is out of date and deprecatted - ie - no longer sold to my knowledge though I could be wrong or their could be a few parts hanging out somewhere.

Basically, its a POS by todays standards. Not sure why you want it unless $100 is way too much money. Then it is better than a 3200 HD I guess. The 3650 might get you buy for a short while but I'm guessing this 4770 is orders of magnitude above it for performance. Probably at least 5x faster.

Think of the 4770 as the modern equivalent to the 9600 XT or the 1650 XT in its day.

well, i'm running an AGP MoBo, so I'm a little limited on what video cards i can use. that and none of us (friends and immediate family) has 100$ at the moment that we can't spend on better things (friggin economy)so i'm stuck getting the 3650, after that, maybe I'll look into a PCI-e motherboard...and a better processor

Didn't know this. There may be a better alternative for an AGP board though. Let me look.

Here is a 3850 - AGP - http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...381&CatId=2234

Might be a better option. Price is not that much different.
