Question for doing videos. How do you do a video without getting the control panel on the bottom or the message box on top? I assume you use Fraps? Is there any tutorial on this, I did a search but got a million hits, and they were tutorials on other subjects not on actually making a video.

Thanks
Peabody

The "Del" key on the numberpad removes the HUD in game.

I'm really interested in this too; actually I just made room in my disk (48 GB) so I can host the huge files produced by fraps.

Please answer peabody with more usefull information than I provide

Default Dang!

I guess I'll need to start thinking about an upgrade if I want to get into movies. The game works extremely well but slows to a complete crawl if I try to use FRAPS.

Thanks Linavitch appreciate that. Now we'll see how well it plays with fraps. It does ok with just the sub, but I'll have to see what it does in battle....see if my video card can handle it.

Thanks for the offer Nisfeis. Right now I seem to have a problem. I have used Fraps before and didn't have any problems. I can record the video ok, but everytime I go to the fraps folder and click on one of the .avi files, Windoze shuts down Explorer with that stupid 'Data execution prevention' to protect my machine. I don't even have to double click it, I just need to click once and bam. I don't have this problem with any other .avi files. Right now it is a mystery. It's not the full version it is just the free version with the 30 sec time limit. If I find I am going to use it I will buy it but not if it won't work. I have used it before on Falcon 4:Allied Force and it worked fine. I am going to try it on half screen, I had it on full, see what happens, I reinstalled it.

For editing together I only have Pinnacle Studio 9 right now. It was on sale with a capture card so that is how I ended up with it. Not the best but it works. I really want Vegas but the full version is toooooo expensive for me. I make DVDs from my daughter's video camera (mostly my granddaughter). But I also do Nature photography and sell it, just as a hobby I don't do it professionally but I like the 3D Track motion in Vegas, the Vegas Studio only has 2D. What do you use? I know I will need something to compress it a lot more if I want to put in on the net, and I don't have anything for that.

Right now I am going to check the reinstall of Fraps and see what happens.

Edit: Did some research and I can shut off data execution Prevention for Explorer and it will work fine. The reason I didn't have the problem before is I did not have XP SP2 I only had SP1. Just need to do some research to see if this is a good idea.

I found the sound is way too loud so I will have to turn up the volumn on the external volumn control and turn down the internal sound.

I really would appreciate any ideas or suggestions. Do you have any videos? Point me to them, may get some ideas!

Do you have any fraps videos you made with Falcon 4? If so, do they still play OK? It might be crashing when it tries to show you the preview window of the fraps video. This can happen if the fraps decompressor codec gets corrupted. If the previously fine Falcon 4 vids now also crash, then it's likely the fraps codec that is corrupted. I've got no issues with SP2 installed, so if you know that will fix it, I'd go for it.

I use Sony Vegas 7, which I managed to get cheaply. It's not the latest version (version 8?), but it still works brilliantly. You can see my first movie on the SH4 video only thread, which is stickied. It was the one I entered into the recent SH4 video contest.

Nisgeis.

I set an exception for "windows explorer" which is what was closing when I tryed to play the .avi. Then I undid the exception to try other .avi files (reboot after each change) and now I don't have problems with any of them. Even though I rebooted after adding then uninstalling Fraps, I guess this last reboot must have fixed something. ?????

edit: I read in the video thread you were working on getting Text to work. Did you get it figured out, I know in Vegas 5 in was the Media Generator tab.

For whatever reason Vegas didn't install any of the plugins the first time round, so I had no video effects, or media generators. Looking back, this was a good thing, or I might have gone mad with all the options.
