Default Explain this AI behavior (2 concurrent task forces)

May '41, I get the all-points Bismarck distress call on the 27th (doing my alt history XXI career in GWX 2.0). I run headlong at surfaced flank speed towards said location, and encounter not only 2 heavy cruisers (County class), but a KGV class BB (perhaps the lead ship herself) right around the time of the Bismarck's real-life demise. The CA's are operating about 3000 yards ahead of the BB, and at first I assumed they were all part of the same task force. But the BB almost collided with one of the cruisers, and then proceeded on her merry way east while the cruisers went off at about 90 degrees off the BB's starboard bow.

Eventually I get in position to intercept the BB, and fire four torps and sink her, avenging the Bismarck's death. The weird thing happened afterwards, when the cruisers inexplicably slowed from their 21 knot cruise down to 10 knots, and started to meander in my general direction (about only 5,000 meters from the spot where the KGV went down in fact), doing lazy looping zigzags all the while. Of course I was then able to easily sink them too. What was going on here-did they "think" they had DD capability (umm no depth charge racks) and were attempting to "stalk" me? Why not call in Coastal Air and some nearby DD's while bugging off at high speed in the opposite direction? Or do distant ships farther apart than c. 5,000 m never "talk" to one another?
