Commercial hog wash.

You married guys can do this all year round not just on one day of the year.

If your wifes saw it for what it was then you would not have the problem. For example my bosses wife also thinks it's commercial rubbish and wants no part of it.

2 of 3 swedish teens feels abandoned and generally blue on Valentines day, or as we call it: "Alla hjärtans dag" (Roughly translated to "all hearts day"). I would almost consider myself one of those 2.

Why? Well, I see all these wonderful girls (and that's not just their looks lads) around me, all have found someone, and none of them consider me as that "someone". And why should they? It never happened before in my entire life. Or well, it happened ONCE, but that couldn't work. Long story, you're not interested anyway.

Also, several schools have rejected this day as something to draw attention too, since it makes many students sad when they see how some students gets alot of attention while they'll get none at all. You know, some students gets showered with flowers, some gets none at all. It's quite depressing to some, and I can understand them. Thank God this day is not as big as it is in the States...

Oh, thank God! I though I was the only sane person left at my school (read: world). We even have our own Valentine Post. Go figure, "ex-communist" country making people feel that consumarism is good, especially on holidays and/or even special events such as valentines. I agree with Biggles, we're not all some sort of "socially wanted" (I've put it in bracket as everyone has his own explanation of it).

Yeh, the States are just mad about ANY holiday. What have we made from our old traditions? Not that I would agree on anything that celebrates love in such a manner, now or in the past, but our society has a nose for turning everything for the worst. Once again, it's those who look at others that suffer. I'm not talking about "people without someones" as Biggles put it, I'm talking about those who can't afford in this society to enjoy one special day (as it's being promoted). Guess who WON'T be getting a diamond necklace and 3 or so dozen roses?

There are many reasons why one might not like valentines in its current form. Be glad you don't. You're not missing anything. Just capitalism and liberalism forcing you to do something to "belong" to the crowd. For all the others, who have their better halfs, make them show you love them. Just for the sake of it. Be sure it's NOT the ONLY day you do it. Otherwise, you're no better than those who look at this through the money prism.

Yeh, my missus is OS atm as well.

when we started dating she tried to convert me to the valentines way of thinking... id been telling her for years that i didnt take part, my reasons why are for my partner only. So when we started dating she found out the reason - why should someone dictate to you what one day of the year is special and needs to be celebrated - every day with her is a special day, n i show this through small things.

Biggles, PM me the story if you like, but dont feel down about it - lifes a helluva lot cheaper for single guys!

She can totally see it for what it is, but it still doesn't matter. If her co workers and friends are getting things, no matter how much she tells you it is OK, she is still being left out and feels left out regardless if she tells you or not.

Just follow my advice, and don't ask questions. That is all you need to know.

So she knows it's rubbish but still pays lip service to it.

Ask KP and he will tell you what to do.

hehe, when me and her went to tescos for a bit of shopping for me to cook tomorrow night, there was a line of about 50 blokes all with the same look on their faces, all carrying bunches of flowers, waiting for the tills. :rotfl:

I make the exception for a single red rose on valentines day, rather than a mahoosive bunch that will die very soon.

Given the choice I think most men would do without most celebrations (in the traditional sense) and prefer to enjoy good food and drink at christmas and the new year. On the whole we don't seem to suffer from that affliction that so besets woman kind; the need to have vast amounts of money spent on useless things for them by their partner, to demonstrate their affection at certain key times if the year.
It must be some kind of recessive gene, left over from when the need to court a mate involved bringing said potential mate the largest damn meaty carcass on the savannah to show how much of an 'alpha male' you were. :hmm:

And so the planets revolve about the sun and the seasons roll on with the passive inevitability of the natural order of things; meanwhile mankind thinks digital watches and velcro are indelible signs of his progress and ascension, all the time believing he is so much more than the beasts of the field.

Ah......Mr. Gumby...how I love (hehe) that chap!

Anyway, if people would find it funny, I could tell you my one and only romantic story in life. I have no problem telling it as such (maybe leaving some of the finer details) just figured that people would take it as an off topic thingy...
