Manual Speed Input?
Because I've been playing SH4 recently which is geared more towards calculating speed yourself, it feels like a bit of a cop out when I use the notepad in SH3.
I know I can go to the attack map and manully enter the target speed but what I want to know is, does this overide the notepad speed? Because the notepad speed entry stays as it is regardless of where I set the speed on the attack map. Do I need to send the data to the periscope? Or should I just ignore the notepad speed entry once I've adjusted on the attack map?

If you have the manual TDC update ON, the TDC won't care about the periscope bearing, nor the speed or AoB on the Notepad. You can however open the TDC, input one value to override what you have on the Notepad and turn off the manual TDC update.

How do I set TDC update on? I take it this is the same as the position keeper in SH4.
If I set the speed on the attack map, then go to the scope to fire the shot, will it go off the attack map or my scope settings?

There's a button on the TDC screen, not sure about the location since some mods modify that...
If you place your mouse over it, it should say something like Manual TDC update. If it's green, is activated, and doesn't matter whether you fire from the peri, UZO or whatever, the systems sticks with that, if is deactivated (RED) the system takes the bearing from the optics being used, range and AoB from the NotePad IF and only IF you check the checkmark on it. That's why you can take your measures, go to the TDC, modify them, and then uncheck the Manual Update, go back to the Peri, and the speed will remain the same as you manually input. Note: if you click the checkmark after leaving the TDC, the system will update again with what you have on the NotePad

No, I did this...
I had 10 kts set on the notepad. Went to TDC manually input a different value (I think 15 kts), went back to the scope and it still said 10 kts. ![]()

![]() Give it a try on Naval Academy. Hope it helps Also rember, that if the only thing you want to modify is the speed, then you need to turn off manual update after you've changed it, in order for the TDC to start aiming through the scope again!
