Default 8 new PT-Boats pics

Worthplaying.com has 8 new screens from PT-Boats.

I must admit I get less and less excited with each new screenshot, now we have huge text messages on screen, health bars above ships and ugly yellow lines everywhere and speeds displayed in Km/h rather than knot. Release it now before the publishers request any more dumbing down!

You're so right. It's arcade ****.

The health bars settle it for me. I have made a vow to never play anything that has green health bars.

The health bars suck, hopfully they can be turned off, or moded out later. Apart from that its ok - remember ships in SH3/4 have a similar 'hit point' style system, just because you can't see the health bars, it doesn't mean they are not there.

Only Microsoft are stupid (or rich) enough to develop dx10 only games (they have an ulterior motive to flog the dead horse that is Vista). The Akella guys have stated that there will be a dx9 version which presumably means XP.

LOL, actually I have made the same vow. Even the overlays in SHIII were a thorn in my eye.

Sometimes it makes you wonder what the heck the devs had on their mind. A historical sim with digital huds and displays projected into your eye. Not even modern tank crews have something like this.

This totally spoils the experience, at least for me. The GPS real time digital map was already to hard to bear. It's awefully how devs manage it to spoil a great effort time and again. They will never learn.

I will certainly not include this crap into my own sim. Historical simulations are all about tracking the situation in your head.

I think that the release and success of Battlestations Midway prompted them to move from a hard core sim to this sim/ strategy hybrid. Whilst I too don't like the health bars etc in strategy mode, I still like the look of the sim part and will probably still buy the game.

When you get down to it, the whole point of a sim is to put you IN the enviroment, so you can live the world, think out what is going on and make educated and meaningful decisions that the computer can use to provide a realistic response. having weird yellow lines on the screen or boxes of words or numbers does NOT do that. I want to look at my dials and controls and if the engine overheats becouse I was pre occupied with something else then so be it, I will have to learn and that is the beuty of a sim, it makes you research, and god forbid, even read up on the subject and LEARN something whilst also living an expereance that we just can not do in real life. "all hail the modders" They add reality one mod at a time, and shame on the developers who can not decide if this will be a sim or a game, please do not give us both in one! It was this mentality that buggered up a lot of the naval programs. and please do not mention Battle stations Midway again, I thought that one was a complete joke I am suprised they did not add "Pac man music".
Talking of the Modders, What do they do for regular jobs? they are very good at the mod thing! I am suprised that the software people have not recruited them. I am waiting for someone to build us a walk around program where you can run from various stations and interact with the crew on a more meaningful manner, kind of like a "Naval sim - the sims" hybrid where I can hook up my pals as other officers managing and fighting the boat for real!

Strangely enough PT boats was to have the very feature you desire so much (multi stations manned by different users) not sure if it's still in there though. And note that I think the lines etc are only in RTS/Tactical mode not the simulator part judging by the screenshots released thus far.

quote Pugwash 1 "please do not mention Battle stations Midway again, I thought that one was a complete joke I am suprised they did not add "Pac man music".

Battlestations Midway, is not a sim and did not pretend to be, it's an action strategy hybrid, it's also quite fun in it's own way and if it acheived nothing else at least it got people who wouldn't normally look at naval games to maybe expand their minds and look at Silent Hunter and ERT and for that we should all be greatful.

Daemon. thanks for the link, and yes that is what I mean, I do love the Dreadnought site, I have a huge print of a submarine plan from the old German plans section, printed on our poster size printer, it does not get any better than that!

Sonarman. I bow to your wisdom. You are so right and I am so wrong, I should have done more homework before spending my pennies though, I find that my son in law loves Midway, and he is a comic artist who had no interest in Naval matters at all. so your point is driven home even harder.

My hopes are for a true to-life sim that I can get totaly into before I get to old to follow the technology !!, SH3 and 4 are going in the right direction, and are some of the finest examples of the art form (especialy after the mods), I am realy looking forward to the Pt boat program, my second favorite vessel type after the subs are those superbly designed S-boats, the Germans had great style and flair for realy nice looking naval design.
