Default Online play

So far as I know online play with Silent Hunter 4 has not really caught on. everyone's games are so customized that they have difficulty matching exact configurations for online play. And the solo game is so good that I just have never been curious enough to try it out, although I don't have any technical reason not to.

I know: not what you wanted to hear. Maybe you can get something started.

Yup, good luck finding two people with the exact same file configuration. Pity really, SH4 has what sounds like some interesting muliplayer modes. I suppose any MP action, would have to be organized, and strict rules set as to what to run mod wise, or no mods at all.

By way of suggestion though if you find willing players its not that hard
to make matched installs for mp.

With the JSGME tool, its not that difficult to take away or add mods if you need to connect with someone.

When you find someone to play with, decide before hand which mods you want to use.

I guess that would work for those of you, who's configuration is similiar and doesn't require to much.

Somewhere around the 1st couple of patches, there was a lot of noise about how hadicapped the surface commander was, then all chat about mult stopped. I suspect like others here, the sihgle player was found to be so immersive mult has fallen off the radar as something to add life to the sim.

Not much of a pack wolf here either ... I perfer lone wolf attacks. Just seems more realistic.

Default Wolfpack

Yeah, wolfpack attacks with captains on Teamspeak would be really unrealistic as American wolfpacks seldom spoke on radio outside of arranging a rendezvous point for the evening. They were too paranoid about radio direction finding, knowing the number of U-Boats killed in that manner. Our wolfpacks were just ways of putting multiple subs in a smaller patrol area without having them kill each other.

Just the same, I'm open to the idea of trying online play at some point. Ubi is handicapped in that regard because the solo game is so good. It's the opposite of the FPS games where the solo game is often lame and the whole deal is about the online features.

That was one of the fun parts of multi-play with SH2/DC. The destroyers could communicate with each other. The u-boats could as well, but only when surfaced, and then the destroyers had a good chance of intercepting the message.

Of course this wasn't teamspeak, but typed messages.

... and then these same online players complain they can't get a satisfying game because their opponents are so STUPID or bail part way through the game because they are losing!
