Bugger!!!!
I came home tonight to a fried PC!
![]() We had a violent thunderstorm here whilst I was at work and when try to switch the desktop PC back on it clicks twice and nothing happens. ![]() ![]() ![]() I cracked the case and the fan on the power unit spins up, the LED on the mobo lights up, the fan on the CPU and one of the exhaust fans spins for a second or two then stops. Can't hear any whir or click from the HDD's or DVD drives. I have a bad feeling that it's either the power unit or the CPU that's dead. Not looking forward to finding out the cost either. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Depending on your power requirements, use a backup or cheap new PSU to test.
I'd put money on the PSU being fried rather than the CPU. Testing the PSU is the cheapest option. But before all of that, go over the MOBO carfully and look for burnt or popped capacitors etc.... Sucks mate. ![]() Edit - Seen you other post. LOL. Down to the shop with you.

Cheers mate. I'd swap it if I had a back up to swap with. I ditched the PSU from the upgrade I did a year ago as it was way under spec for this rig. Gave it to a mate who was fixing and old rig for someone he knew. Oh well as you say down to the shop with me.
![]() I've told the wife and kids to stay out of the way in case they get hit by shrapnel. LOL |

Oh that sucks!!!!! This is why I unplug my PC in the summer when I am out and it feels muggy. But then you can't always know when a thunderstorm will brew up when you are away all day. Hope things work out mate.

![]() The weird thing is that only one of the 3 circuits in the house got hit but none of the trips got triggered and all of the other equipment connected to the SP works (monitors, printer, scanner modems etc). The reason I know only one circuit got hit was that none of the digital clocks that were on the other two circuits was flashing when I got home but the one clock on the same circuit as my rig was flashing. Don't ya just love when electricty becomes unpredictable?:hmm: For those interested this is the SP I'm using: http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProdu...duct_Id=173139 It's supposed to be one of the best on the market and I bought it specifically because of the unlimited warranty. Claiming will be interesting. |

I once had a machine get fried when on a Belkin 900VA UPS. I filed the claim and they ponied up the replacement money, true to their word (in the warranty). I did have to send the burnt out UPS to them so they could verify it failed to isolate my equipment like it was supposed to.
My current windows box is on a Belkin 1200VA UPS now - their Bulldog shutdown software is the best UPS monitoring&shutdown software I've ever used.

Good to hear they coughed up. Problem is it looks like there is no damage to the Belkin SP.:hmm: All the other kit plugged into it still works and the point where the puta was plugged into still appears to work. Might have to get them to crack open the case to see inside if there is any damage but it all looks good externally and is "operable".
